Neighborhood & Community Arts grant

SEATTLE, (February 9, 2016) —The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture announces $48,000 invested in 40 neighborhood arts festivals and events through the two year Neighborhood & Community Arts (NCA) grant program. The program provides each organization with $1,200 per year for events taking place in 20 neighborhoods throughout the city.

Each of events speaks to the character of their neighborhood and invites the city to celebrate the heritage that makes Seattle unique. Highlights include the Alki Art Fair; a premier summer arts showcase featuring food, crafts and music on one of Seattle’s most scenic beaches (July 23-24); the Seattle Jewish Film Festival, an annual and year-round international cinematic exploration and celebration of Jewish and Israeli life, culture, identity, complexity, diversity, and history (April 2-10); Indigenous Showcase, a partnership between Northwest Film Forum and Longhouse Media to present an ongoing series showcasing emerging talents in indigenous communities (ongoing); the Beacon Hill Festival, an all-ages event featuring local entertainment, food and children’s activities celebrating the life and communities of Beacon Hill (June 17-18); and the Thai Festival, an annual outdoor festival in Northgate that showcases various aspects of Thai culture while bringing the city’s Thai community together with a variety of traditional activities, arts and crafts, music and dance performances and lots and lots of delicious, authentic Thai food. (September).

The Neighborhood and Community Arts (NCA) Program supports, affirms and encourages the work of Seattle’s neighborhood arts councils and community stewardship groups, investing in the vibrant work being done in and by communities throughout Seattle. Grants support recurring festivals or events that promote arts and cultural participation, build community relations and enhance the visibility of neighborhoods using arts and culture.
